Biography

Dr. Ali Ramazani is a Research Scientist and Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Visiting Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). His primary research focuses on the development of fundamental, integrated and quantitative multi-scale materials modeling approaches in combination with Machine Learning (ML) methods to design and discover materials with exceptional properties. Multi-scale models resolve interactions of material structure and mechanisms at electronic (ab–initio), atomistic (molecular dynamics), micro (mechanics of slip), meso– and macro– (finite element models) scales. He develops models and tools to address key engineering issues, build the process–structure–property–performance relationship, and achieve tailored material response and prediction of material performance in moderate to extreme environments in the framework of the integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) concept. He also develops high-throughput methodologies including ML-based models to enable rapid discovery, inverse design, and optimization of novel materials with greater functionalities. Developing such approaches enables the design and discovery of new materials for use in a wide variety of applications including energy, electronic, biomedical, automotive and aircraft structures.
