Prof. Song has been engaged in interdisciplinary research on materials science and printing technology, and has made systematic innovative achievements in the creation of nanomaterials, interface droplet manipulation, and printing micro/nano manufacturing. He has published over 600 SCI papers, with over 38,000 citations and an H-index of 109. He has been granted more than 130 Chinese invention patents and 26 international invention patents.

He won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2008 and 2005, the first prize of Beijing Science and Technology Award in 2016, the National Innovation Competition Award in 2023, the China Youth Science and Technology Award, the Outstanding Youth of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Outstanding Youth Achievement Transformation Award of the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Chemical Society-AkzoNobel Chemistry Award, the IEC 1906 Award, etc.
