Georgina Miranda, PhD Mechanical Engineering, is an Assistant Professor at University of Aveiro. She earned her PhD in 2015, with a thesis entitled “Development of aluminum-based composites by pressure-assisted sintering”. After her PhD completion, as FCT-funded researcher (CEEC-Individual-2017 and FCT post-doc SFRH/BPD/112111/2015) and currently as CICECO researcher, she has been working on laser additive and subtractive manufacturing, with innovative approaches for the design and fabrication of multi-functional parts. She is Principal Investigator (PI) of three FCT funded projects: ADAPTPROSTHESIS - Development of smart designed adaptive prosthesis for Orthopaedic Applications (PTDC/EMS-TEC/5422/2014) - completed; SMARTCUT - Smart designed cutting tools by Multi-material Selective Laser Melting/Sintering (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030353) - ongoing and ADD2MECHBIO - Additive manufacturing meets mechanobiology: design and fabrication of osteogenic-stimulating implants (PTDC/EME-EME/1442/2020) - ongoing. She is also Co-PI of the recently started project “Multifunctional polymer nanocomposite flexible films for electrocaloric cooling and energy storage (EXPL/CTM-CTM/0687/2021)” Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials Engineering and Ceramics at University of Aveiro since 09/2020, she has 10 years of experience teaching undergraduate Mechanical, Materials and Biomedical Engineering courses, and supervises 6 PhD students (1 finished/5 ongoing) and several Eng. MSc students, having +75 papers published in ISI journals (h-index 20) and more than 50 contributions to national/international conferences. Her main interests include multi-material design and fabrication; laser approaches for sintering/melting/ablation; additive manufacturing, especially selective laser melting; powder metallurgy; materials transition design through functionally graded materials (FGMs) and cellular structuring/topology optimization for tailoring properties.
