Prof. Ionel I. Mangalagiu graduated in 1990 from the Chemical Technological Faculty, the Department of CHEMISTRY- PHYSICS, at the Polytechnic Institute, Iasi, Romania, being Bachelor in Chemistry and Physics. In the same year, 1990, he became an assistant professor, to the Organic Chemistry Department, “Al.I.Cuza” University Iasi; in 1995 he was promoted to lecturer (exam) at the same department.

In 1996 he took his Doctor’s Degree in Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. MAGDA PETROVANU investigating the synthesis, reactions and practical applications of diazinium ylides. After that, he began to establish an independent research career in the field of nitrogen heterocycles.

In 1997 he became an associate professor and in 2000 he was appointed Professor of Organic Chemistry to “Al.I.Cuza” University Iasi.

His work has been recognized with several awards including a NATO Fellowship (1998).
